Passage: Hebrews 1:5-9
More Important than the Angels
The Son of God is glorious, he is beautiful, he is strong and he is pure. And He is more important that everything in all creation.
The Son of God has been measured against the other deliverers of the God's message. He is greater then the prophets (Heb 1:1) and now, he is greater than the Angels. Nothing physical or spiritual, including angels is more important than the Son of God. Nothing compares to him in importance or greatness.
In this passage the there are at least four ways that the Son of God is more important than the angels.
God calls Him Son: He has been declared from the beginning to the Son of God. No angel has been given this honor. The Son of God is not a peer to the angels, he is the one and only Son of the Almighty God.
The angels worship him: Angels are only created beings. The Son of God is the creator and sustainer of all created things. This means that angels, just like all of us, owe their existence to the Son of God. He is the object of their worship.
He commands the angels: The Son of God sends out the angels at His biding. They are his ministers to be used for his purposes.
God has given Him a throne: The Son of God has been given a throne and has been placed as King over an everlasting Kingdom. Angels are given no such responsibility or rule.
This passage makes one thing abundantly clear. Angels are not worthy of worship, the Son of God is.
