Passage: Hebrews 3:12-19

Confidence in the Son of God

Our hearts are all prone to be led astray. We are drawn to evil that will lead to unbelief. You do not want to fall away from faith in the living God. So instead, be strong, and be together in faith. Encourage each other every day so that no one will be “Hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.” Take care then that we do not allow our hearts to be hardened by sin.

God will not allow an evil, unbelieving heart to take part in the blessing of his people. “Who were those who heard and yet rebelled?” It was the very people that God had saved from slavery in Egypt. The people who should have known the faithfulness of God better than anyone, rejected him. The sinned in the wilderness and disobeyed their God. Therefore God withheld his blessing from that evil and unbelieving generation.

This again is used as a warning to us. They were not able to enter God’s rest because of their unbelief. That is why it is so important that we encourage each other to have confidence in the promises of God. “For we come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.”
