Theme: Importance of the Son of God

Passage: Hebrews 5:7-10

The Son is the Source of Eternal Salvation

During the time that Jesus walked the earth, he "offered supplications with loud cries and tears" to God, asking that God save him from death. He knew what paying the penalty for sin meant and he was not excited to endure it. Remember when he pleaded with God in the Garden of Gethsemane? He pleaded that God would take the suffering and death, that he would soon experience, away from Him.

God listened to those prayers and loved Jesus for them, but the plan was set. If Jesus was to become the "source of eternal salvation" for his people, then he must follow the plan laid out by his Father.

In obedience to His Father's will, Jesus suffered and died for his people.

Jesus' obedience through his suffering was the final piece to his perfection. In every way Jesus pleased his father and denied his temptations. He obeyed his father perfectly, even to the point of death the cross. Since his obedience knew no bounds, God has highly exalted him, making him the very source of eternal salvation for all who would believe and obey him. And Jesus role of High Priest would be exalted too.
