Passage: Hebrews 8:1-4

The Perfect High Priest

Every high priest is appointed in order to serve both God and his people. They are meant to “offer gifts and sacrifices” to God and minister to the needs of the people. Thus any High Priest that is to be called a “perfect” high priest must to so also. Yet, Jesus is different. There are at least 3 ways that Jesus’ role as high priest is different.

1) Jesus does not serve in the earthly temple:

Jesus is seated at the “right hand of the majesty in heaven, a minister in the true tent that the Lord has set up.” He assumed the role of high priest in heaven and sits beside God almighty making intersession for us all.

2) Jesus will never stop serving as high priest:

By the power of an indestructible life, Jesus will hold the role of high priest for eternity. He will always stand as the final mediator between God and man.

3) The gift and sacrifice that Jesus gave was himself:

Jesus sacrifice of himself ended sacrifices forever. No longer do people need to appease God, instead God is pleased with them because of the sacrifice of Jesus.

Jesus stands as the only true high priest, who serves in the only true temple and has become the only way for people to know God. Everything else is only a shadow of the truth.
